Acer Ferrari One FO200-1799 11.6-Inch Red Netbook - Up to 5 Hours of Battery Life Review

My company supplies me a HP 8510W, which can’t really be called a laptop, it’s more closer to vacuum cleaner set on blow (yes the fan on the side is that bad, but it does keep my coffee hot!) - & just as portable / useful when on battery, and when plugged into the wall I’m sure the lights dim (…ok just slightly).
and guess what.. I travel a lot, so I decided I needed a netbook (It needed to be cheap because I was paying for it) but actually useful not some low power consumption 1.6Ghz ATOM (or worse) and that you didn’t need to be an Olympic weight lifter to lug around (i’m a Geek after all), and it could actually last on the road at least for a reasonable part of the day, as well as in the office with a large HD LCD screen on high res. (most netbooks the graphics card lets them down in this area)
The Acer Ferrari One meets those needs and then some - I’m really happy with it!
Video / Graphics meets the requirements (and yes it can actually run BF2, at least well enough for when you need to frag something sitting in a hotel room), I installed Win7 Ultimate x64 and it hasn’t missed a beat - in the office I typically have Outlook 2007, Word / Excel and probably 6 or 7 browser sessions open plus Office Communicator, TweetDeck and VISIO or Groove and I can still do full video conferencing without any performance hit.
Out of the office it’s typically lasting me a solid 4 plus hours before I start to have to watch the power meter (it waits until it gets to 10% before starting the warning prompts).
Only thing I’m not impressed with is the colour (Ferrari RED) - hate it! why can’t this spec come in other colours? - however to be fair my wife and daughters love the Red (also another reason I wish it came in another colour)..
For 9 USD it was a no brainer, and since I bought mine 3 others in the office have too.

This unit has surpassed every hope that I had for it. It is a full featured (minus DVD) comupter. Full sized keyboard with a great touch. I traded a 15 pound “portable” for 2.5 pounds. Love it!!!!!

I have been using lot of laptops and desktops. This got added as most recent netbook to my collection. Z520 processor feels like bit on the slower side, but if you uninstall Anti-virus and MSOffice Student ver and etc and have AVG anti-virus installed. It runs pretty smooth. I didn’t face any issue with youtube or by playing DivX videos through VLC Media player. If you know how to keep your laptop optimized, I bet you don’t feel performance degradation.

Great gadget at cost of mobile phone. Full HD video on NVIDIA ION works if the right codecs are installed. Easy reinstallation/recovery - I had to do it because of F-Secure anti virus solution, which crashed my XP OS. Some limitations because of XP home, but generally i’m really impressed.

Acer Aspire One AO751h-1080 11.6-Inch Blue Netbook - 3+ Hour Battery Life Review

This is a really easy device to use. Much more practical than 8-10 inch netbooks, this one is actually useful. It is the perfect size, right between netbook and laptop. Full size keyboard with big buttons. The 11.6″ screen make you feel ike you’re using a real machine, not a toy. The Vista OS runs too slow on it, but an upgrade to WinXP sovled all of my speed problems. This unit is not powerful enough to ship with Vista, and Acer made a mistake by not shipping it with XP. Acer support was worthless when I asked about the XP drivers. I had to find Drivers myself for XP, and found that a competing Fujitsu model carried all the drivers I needed for this unit. Once that was resolved, no problems. Divx Movies, Music, Youtube all run great. OS runs very snappy with 2GB RAM, and the 250GB hard drive is perfect. I got the 3 cell battery, it lasts 2.5 hours with normal use. I will be gettign the 6 cell upgrade separately. I would recommend anyone seriously using this unit as a road warrior get the model that has the 6 cell battery. It’s only 50 bucks more, and you get twice the battery life. I paid 9, wish I had gotten the 9 version with upgraded battery.
