ASUS 10.1″ Eee PC 160GB Netbook Computer with Windows XP Home - Midnight Blue (1005HA) Review

I got this netbook back in july, wanted to give it some time before writing a review on the item. So, here goes…
After opening the box and charging the 1005hab for the specified time in the manual,I was finally ready to fire it up. 1st, the case is a magnet for fingerprints, but overall fit and finish seems nice. Startup and seting up the netbook for first use was very easy, no more than 20 minutes and I was already connected to my network in my home. Wireless is great, built in n speeds was nice for a 0 netbook, My router is in my basement and I can get 75% strength on the 1st floor at the other end of the house, 2nd floor has ok signal so overall very good. The touch pad for me is not the greatest, just trying to move the pointer around with it sometimes goes into a scrolling effect rather than the mouse moving, and the left anf right buttons don’t always seem to register every click. Got a bluetooth mouse and solved those issues. Keyboard took a little getting used to due to the size, also the size of the screen makes viewing some documents and web pages tough, I have to be wearing my glasses to see the screen clearly, i use a 22″ monitor on my home computer so i can get away with no glasses with that, not the netbook though. But then if I wanted something that was big and easy to read, i would have bought a full size laptop. Hard drive storage is good at 140ish GB free out of the box. Lets talk battery… where did they get 4+ hours of life from this thing? I haven’t timed it out to see for sure but it’s more like 2-3 hours depending on what your doing with it. it may stretch out to 3.5 before shutting down from low power but i just charge it before that anyway. Students couldn’t get through a school day on a single charge. The processor power is good for what it is. I use it for mostly internet and I design and maintain a few websites with macromedia software, so its great to bring with me when going to meet up with people to talk sites. Fits inside my motorcycle side case with ease. I also bought a 2GB memory chip but saw very little diffence with it. If your running that many memory hogging programs that you really need to upgrade the netbook, you probably should have bought a fullsize laptop with a faster processor. changing the chip was very easy though, 1 screw and a little cover on the bottom comes right off.
Overall if you want a compact, easy to use computer to take with you for email, word documents and some picture editing software, or just to browse the internet, I’d say this is for you, if your going to be editing video or mutlitasking larger programs, you might want to think laptop
